Edgestitching, and Why I Love It

It’s this foot:

I can’t remember if it came with my Pfaff 1229, or if I picked it up somewhere else.  Every other foot for my Pfaff snaps onto the shank, so I’m inclined to think this was an add-on.  However I found it, it’s a fantastic tool for the edgestitching I love.

All I have to do is line up the edge of the material (or the seam)  with the edge of the tiny cutout for my machine’s needle:

This little gadget lets me put a stitching line very, very close to an edge.  Just about perfectly, every time:

I can go around curves with no difficulty, turn sharp corners, and do any other little, fussy thing I want without a glitch, because I can see what I’m doing every step of the way.

hrm… this would also work for pintucking…I’m thinking of making B5559 which has a lot of pintucking going on…I have to look at my zipper foot as others have suggested above…

I also use my double sided Elma zipper foot for edge stitching, works great

Zipper feet definitely have the necessary precision to allow for good edge-stitching. One of the things I’ve got on my list to try is using my very petite, very precise Featherweight zipper foot for this. I used it for this years ago, but haven’t at all since I began sewing again.

I love presser feet! That one looks sort of like my zipper foot for my machine, except mine is two-sided so you can flip it around and have a needle hole on the other side of the foot.

I think the zipper foot for my Featherweight is very much like the one you describe, Debbie, except that I think it slides side-to-side instead of flipping. Either one might make a great edge-stitcher, too.

Ok, you’ve sold me on that foot! It really is all about having the right tool for the right job (Leslie and I were talking about that concept yesterday!)
